Very many thanks for your long letter. The information will be
of much value to us. No doubt you are right in supposing that
in P.P.II xxviii² the addition of the μερις indicates the existence
the existence of another village of the same name in a different
μερις. But in formal documents the μερις is generally added
even when we have no reason to esuspect the existence of a
synonymous village. I dont think however that your
supposition that villages with a special addition necessarily
had a synonymous village in the same μερις is right. Πτολ.
δρυμος³ is in the μερις Θεμιστου⁴. (B.G.U. 78.1⁵). Πτολ
νεα⁶ and Πτολ. Ευεργετις⁷ were certainly in Heraclides⁸
