President B. I. Wheeler.1
Dear Sir,
I enclose two copies of the
proposed title page of the Tebtunis
Papyri,2 revised in accordance with the
letter of Mr Charles M. Bakewell3 of
Oct 12. 1901, whose instructions we have
carried out except in one particular, viz.
the substitution of 'Series I Vol I' after
'Archaeology', instead of 'Vol. I. No I' as
he wrote. A volume book of 600 odd pages4
can barely help being a 'volume' by itself,
independently of the later parts, and
therefore 'Series I Vol I' seemed to be
th an improvement. But of course if you and

he wish to adhere to 'Vol I No I'
we will have that
We returned from Egypt5 at the end of
April after a four months' absence, and
immediately resumed our work upon the
book which is now nearly finished, and
will be so entirely in another month, we hope.
470 pages have been printed and the
proofs corrected; the printing of the remaining
150 is proceeding and we anticipate that
the book will be published at the end of
August6 or early in September. I should be
much obliged if you would kindly inform me
of any changes to be made in the enclosed
title page not later than July 31st.
As regards copies of the book for review
in America, we propose to send them to
the New York 'Nation'7 and the 'Outlook'.8
Should copies also be sent to the New York
'Journal'9 and other papers in which Mr Hearst10
is interested? And have you any American
classical periodicals to which you would like
copies sent?
AsWith regard to advertising, we propose to spend
a small sum, as usual in advertisements
both in England and America.
