Very many thanks for your long letter. The information will be
of much value to us. No doubt you are right in supposing that
in P.P.II xxviii2 the addition of the μερις indicates the existence
the existence3 of another village of the same name in a different
μερις. But in formal documents the μερις is generally added
even when we have no reason to esuspect the existence of a
synonymous village. I dont think however that your
supposition that villages with a special addition necessarily
had a synonymous village in the same μερις is right. Πτολ.
δρυμος4 is in the μερις Θεμιστου5. (B.G.U. 78.16). Πτολ
νεα7 and Πτολ. Ευεργετις8 were certainly in Heraclides9
